Gizmos!

Enhance and extend your student’s Math and Science skills! Gizmos is a wonderful, web-based program that provides online learning environments and activities to drive home Science and Math concepts. Not sold yet? They are also aligned with Virginia SOL’s to take the guess work out of finding the correct activity for the strand you are teaching. Need some differentiated activities, this site will do it– with activities that range from 3rd to 12th you are sure to find the right activity for each student. Activities, data, clip art, quick assessments- Gizmos can help. Just ask Judy Holzgrefe at Dumbarton! She just recently set up her free (yes I said FREE) 45 day trial and is now making Gizmos available to her students. Interested? Check it out or sign up for a consult, I’d love to help you make the most of this resource.

Podcasting Continues

5th grade students continue to learn about podcasting.  Students explored samples of different types of podcasts to analyze what they liked and what they would change.  They are now able to identify elements of a good podcast. Students also learned about the various roles on a podcasting team. Collaboration and group decision making will be key to making an awesome podcast.

Podcasting is Easy!

pes5gb

5th grade students at Pemberton Elementary will go through a series of lessons exploring Podcasting.  First an introduction to GarageBand is necessary.  Basic functions such as recording your voice, selecting and adding jingles, and placing art work are covered as students make an ‘introduction’ podcast. In the coming weeks, students will have the opportunity to examine different types of podcasts, investigate the elements of a good podcast, and begin collaborating with their classmates to design their podcasts.  I’ll keep you updated on the progress!
