Gizmos!

Enhance and extend your student’s Math and Science skills! Gizmos is a wonderful, web-based program that provides online learning environments and activities to drive home Science and Math concepts. Not sold yet? They are also aligned with Virginia SOL’s to take the guess work out of finding the correct activity for the strand you are teaching. Need some differentiated activities, this site will do it– with activities that range from 3rd to 12th you are sure to find the right activity for each student. Activities, data, clip art, quick assessments- Gizmos can help. Just ask Judy Holzgrefe at Dumbarton! She just recently set up her free (yes I said FREE) 45 day trial and is now making Gizmos available to her students. Interested? Check it out or sign up for a consult, I’d love to help you make the most of this resource.

Collaboration is Key!

Mrs. Panter had everyone in the library hopping! She worked hard to utilize every resource available to make researching and reporting on animals a high tech experience. All hands were on deck as the librarian, classroom, esl, and special education teachers collaborated to assist students in finding out all the information they could about their chosen animal. More to come!

21st Century Spectacular!!!

eles21

Teachers got to show off their spectacular ability to incorporate 21st Century Skills into their lessons. Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Goodman, and Mrs. Koontz put their best foot forward as a college textbook publisher filmed best practices of 21st Century Skills in action at Echo Lake. The publisher was impressed as he saw 4th grade students recover and examine stranded dolphins, 3rd grade students use iPods to listen to, mind map, and write the ending to a traveling story, and 2nd grade students graph weather related data using Web 2.0 resources. Thanks to Ms. Gill for the slide show of students and teachers in action! A very BIG thanks to Echo Lake students, teachers, and administrators for being 21!

4th Grade Spooktacular

spook4

What does a bat’s skeletal system look like? How much silk does a spider use to spin a web? These are the types of questions Mrs. Aloma’s 4th grade students investigated as they participated in Spooktacular. Students put on their science gear, got their preserved bats (yes they were real, dead, but real), and collected the data to answer these and other related questions. Fun was had by all!
