Longan Book Celebration

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

The Longan library hosted fourth graders from three schools as they celebrated reading over twenty books by participating in various activities.  They played Bingo, used the Promethean board to answer trivia, and Wheel of Fortune, among other things.  As the students visited the station I was running, they completed a Comic Life page dealing with their favorite books.  We all had a great time!

Child Lure Videos at Varina

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Rebekah Goehler, Varina’s social worker, has been presenting information on child lures that predators use to entice children.  To help with classroom lessons, we used students from several classes at Varina to act out scenarios dealing with six of the lures.  We created videos for classes to use to see “first hand” how these lures are used.  Channel 12 news came and did a segment on the process while we were filming.  The segment can be found here.

Henrico 21

Friday, February 26th, 2010

One of Henrico County Public Schools’ core beliefs is that, “Students should develop 21st century skills.”  The community also made this one of our top priorities through this year’s Community Priorities Workshop.

Henrico County is pleased to announce an exciting new program that recognizes HCPS
teachers and students who adhere to this core belief. The Division of Instruction
has developed HENRICO 21, the first annual awards program recognizing
teachers and students who produce outstanding lessons and products that
exemplify teaching and learning in the 21st century.

All HCPS teachers are encouraged to submit lessons/activities that typify 21st
century learning to be considered for one of fifteen HENRICO 21 awards.
HENRICO 21 awards will be presented at a gala ceremony modeled after the
Academy Awards. The ceremony will take place May 25, 2010 at Hermitage
High School, starting at 6 p.m.

Sharing the wealth…

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Hello, teachers!  One question I get while visiting and planning with my schools is “What are you doing at your other schools?”  So, in order to help you all out with your classroom activities and ideas, I am posting ALL of the projects I do with my schools here to help inspire ways that YOU can use technology with your classroom!  You will ALSO be able to comment on the posts, projects, and anything else on the site.  I hope that you will find this useful and will come back and visit often.
