Change for Charities Keynote Projects at Pinchbeck

The 5th grade students in Ms. Lopez’s class worked in groups to create Change for Charities Keynote movies. The groups are advertising a charity each day on the morning announcements, and the entire school gets to vote on the winning charity and collect change at the 5th grade “living museum.” The Change for Charities project consisted of the 5th graders reading a book, and writing a small report describing the book. On June 11th, the 5th graders will dress up as the main character for all of the school to see. To make a report start, you must drop change in the character’s collection jar. These videos are all outstanding! Great job 5th grade!

SOL 1.4 Plants Vocabulary Keynote

The first graders at Montrose ES did a great job completing a Plants Keynote template that I made for them. The students completed each slide and formatted their presentations to produce an outstanding multimedia project. A sample template which includes a folder of pictures is available for download by clicking the link below.

Collecting and Evaluating Data in Kindergarten Classrooms

The Kindergarten students at Pinchbeck ES proved that even the youngest students in Henrico County can integrate a spreadsheet into their instructional curriculum. They demonstrated their criticial thinking skills by inputting classroom data into a Numbers spreadsheet and evaluating it by answering follow up questions for further understanding. The students also learned how to use the Chart Inspector to make their 3-D bar graphs bright and colorful. A sample template is available for you to download by clicking the link below.

First Grade Plant Life Cycles

First graders at Springfield Park learned how to correctly label the life cycle of a plant using the Pages application. Using a template that I designed and images that I collected, the students labeled and described each cycle. This activity allowed students to demonstrate their understanding of the plant life cycle and gaven them an opportunity to practice their keyboarding skills.  A sample template with included images is available for you to download by clicking the link below.

5th grade Reconstruction iMovie

Fifth graders at Pinchbeck Elementary learned how to use iMovie to create a 21st Century Review Guide of the Reconstruction time period following the Civil War. The students prepared a written description of an assigned topic or vocabulary term and a visual representation. The students learned how to use the iSight camera within the iMovie application to record their edited descriptions for their classmates. This project is an example of careful planning by the teachers to integrate social studies with language arts to produce a 21st century product. The students had to plan their paragraphs, edit their writing, clearly communicate their writing, and learn how to use a multimedia application. What a great example of 21st century collaboration and communication in the classroom!

Phases of the Moon Keynote

Third graders at Montrose Elementary School demonstrated their understanding of the Moon Phases (SOL 3.8) by creating a Keynote presentation. The students inserted graphics of the moon phases and correctly labeled them on each slide, and they learned how to insert transitions and builds to enhance their projects. A sample template and photos of each moon phase is available for you to download by clicking on the link below.
